Referee Code of Conduct & Ethics
- Act in a professional and business like manner at
all tines on and off the playing surface. Take your role seriously.
Remember that officials are “teachers.” Set a good example. Officials
should act and think like professionals. Behavior and conduct influence
public opinion about officials and the integrity of the game/league.
- Always remember the game is for the players.
Player safety and fair play come first.
- Study and learn the rules of the game and the
interpretation of the rules.
- Encourage and enforce good sportsmanship.
- Strive to provide a safe and sportsmanlike
environment in which players can properly display their hockey skills.
- Make your calls with confidence; never with
arrogance.
- Control games only to the extent that is
necessary to provide a positive and safe experience for all participants.
- Violence must never be tolerated.
- Be fair and impartial at all times, avoiding
conflicts of interest. Decisions based on personal bias are dishonest and
unacceptable.
- Answer all reasonable questions and requests.
- Adopt a “zero tolerance” attitude toward verbal
or physical abuse.
- Never use foul or vulgar language when speaking
with a player, coach or parent. Stay calm when confronted with emotional reaction
from players, coaches and parents. Keep your emotions under control.
- Use honesty and integrity when answering
questions.
- Admit your mistakes when you make them.
- Respect other referees and their decisions, and
do not openly or publicly criticize another official. Not to oneself or to
others. Refrain, while you are a player, spectator or coach at a game,
from using loud, abusive or destructive language in critiquing other
officials. All such incidents are subject to review/action, which may
carry a suspension and/or fine.
- Wear the proper uniform and keep it in good
condition.
- Honor accepted game assignment. Accept it or
reject assignments upon receipt. If you cannot make a scheduled game, it
is YOUR responsibility to find a replacement. Failure to show will result
in a fine equal to the game fee along with the possibility of reduction of
games assigned to you. Shooters Indoor Sportsplex will give written notice
of the fine.
- Dedicate yourself to personal improvement and
maintenance of officiating skills.
- Respect your supervisor and his/her critique of
your performance.
- Arrive on time, tardiness is subject to review.
- Refrain from using alcohol or illegal drugs
before or during a game. Failure to comply results in immediate suspension
and review, which may result in additional disciplinary action.
- If as a player or coach, you are sent off during
any game, you will be placed under review and further disciplinary action
may be taken.
I have read and understand
the items above. I acknowledge that failure to comply with this agreement may
result in immediate suspension, reduction of games, monetary fines or any
further disciplinary action Shooters Indoor Sportsplex deems fit.
